The community takes its name from the CV cattle brand, first registered in McLennan County in 1850 by Claiborne Varner and later connected to the storied CV Ranch that once covered 47,000 acres in this corner of Cottle County. When the ranch was broken up in the late 1920s and sold off as smaller farms, the community of Cee Vee grew up in its place — complete with a cotton gin, churches, a school, and a handful of stores serving a large isolated farming area.
That self-reliant character hasn’t changed. Cotton, beef cattle, grains, and alfalfa still drive the local economy. Farms here depend on equipment that runs on dyed diesel, trucks that burn clear diesel, and homes and shops that run on propane.
